Last week, my son and I were driving to an indoor rock climbing gym for some midweek excitement. In the way, we were talking about normal backseat banter: "How was school? What did you learn today? etc.
My son was only half engaged because he was playing minecraft on a small gaming device.
Out of no where my son stated mater-of-factly, "I know what I want to be when I grow up."
This is that moment all parents look forward to. A "real" conversation with your child...that moment you can bestow a small part of your wisdom and life experiences to that next generation.
Excitedly I asked, "Oh yeah, what's that?" "I wanna be a miner-guy" he replied.
"Well that's neat! When, I was a little boy like you I wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up" I commented.
"Did you do it?" he asked.
"No...." I replied, and with out skipping a beat *or looking up from his game* he comments "Why not!?"
I was speechless...and choked with laughter at the simplicity and matter-of-factness of the childs mind...
At what point do we lose that!?
I think I will be looking into that Astronaut thing again really soon....
